About BrewWise
BrewWise started with a simple frustration: every "best espresso machine" list on the internet seemed written for people with unlimited budgets and unlimited counter space. We write for the rest of us — beginners buying their first real setup on a normal budget.
How we research
We don't run a test lab, and we won't pretend we do. Every guide on BrewWise is built from three sources:
- Manufacturer specs — boiler type, heat-up time, portafilter size, burr type. The objective facts.
- Owner reviews at scale — we read hundreds of verified-purchase reviews to find the patterns: what breaks, what's annoying, what people love after six months.
- Community consensus — brewing forums and coffee communities where experienced home baristas share what they'd buy again.
When a product has a known weakness, we say so. When a cheaper option is genuinely better for a beginner, we recommend the cheaper one — even though it earns us a smaller commission.
How we make money
BrewWise is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission from the retailer at no extra cost to you. That's the entire business model — we don't sell your data, and we don't take money from brands for rankings. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
What we believe
- Great home coffee shouldn't require a second mortgage.
- The grinder matters more than the machine at beginner budgets.
- Technique is free — most "bad coffee" problems are technique, not gear.
- Honest "don't buy this yet" advice is more valuable than another recommendation.
